WEB DESIGN FOR AUTHORS

Before the Project

Tara and Kathy were writing a book for Christian mothers and needed a website to help them get the word out about their project and start building an email list.

Tara started creating a website on her own but wasn’t happy with how it was going. She wasn’t sure how to organize everything, it was harder than she thought it would be to make it look good, and she didn’t have a lot of time.

Tara and Kathy realized they needed some help to get a professional-looking website that really represented their work so they could start promoting their book.

The Initial Launch & The First Book

The first website launch included a blog, a page of Spotify playlists that aligned to each chapter of their upcoming book, and an email sign-up for people to get notified when the book launched.

As the launch of their first book approached, Kathy and Tara decided to re-brand their website with brighter greens and blues. It was also time to update the website to promote their finished book, add more book resources, and revise their website strategy to encourage book pre-orders more prominently than email sign-ups. (Design IS strategy!)

The Second Book Update

‍Two years later, Tara and Kathy are getting ready to launch their second book! We not only had to add the second book to the website but also restructure the site to support resources for BOTH books. We had to think about user experience so readers could easily find the resources for each book and maintain continuity of existing links and SEO (search engine optimization) as we moved things around.

Squarespace URL re-directs ensured no broken links and Will Meyer’s Tabs Pro Plugin helped us organize resources, beautifully and made them easy to access for both books!  We also upgraded the blog to include a sidebar (using the Sidebar Plugin from SQSPThemes) so when people find the website through search, they get a little book promo and easy links to explore the books and the authors.

Kathy and Tara also invested a lot of time selecting new photos for the site that worked well together and conveyed the feelings and messages behind their book.  The way it all came together is stunning and it was a true, collaborative effort!

If you are a Christian mom, and Bible Study is your thing, visit their website and check out their books and all of the resources on their site for busy, stressed-out moms.

"Shannah understood what we needed even when we didn't."

"She somehow managed to draw our vision out of us and presented us with something more beautiful and functional than we knew was possible. Our publisher normally builds websites for authors but they said they couldn't build one as nice as the one Shannah built for us!"
